Safe Schools
The HDSB Safe Schools team supports student success through interventions and staff learning that promote safe, healthy and inclusive classrooms. We work together to build positive environments where students can learn, grow and inspire.
Student safety is a top priority. HDSB is committed to creating equitable learning and working environments for all. We know students thrive when they feel safe, respected and included.
Our goal is to help all students become responsible and respectful members of our school communities.
How We Promote Student Safety
- Code of Conduct and Fair Notice Letter available on all school websites
- Each school has a bullying prevention strategy and an anonymous online reporting tool
- Progressive Discipline approach involving students and parents/guardians
- Elementary Absence Check System in all elementary schools
- Controlled Access Entry at all elementary schools
- Resources to support equitable, safe, and inclusive classrooms
Screenagers Documentary Screenings
We are pleased to share that the HDSB will be hosting additional Screenagers documentary film screenings in November.
Screenagers films explore the impact of screen time, social media and digital culture on youth. These film screenings are an important step in fulfilling the HDSB’s ongoing commitment to supporting student mental health and well-being, in alignment with Ministry of Education requirements (PPM 128), which guides schools in promoting safe and supportive learning environments. Each screening is followed by a meaningful discussion to support families in managing technology use responsibly and supporting student well-being.
The upcoming sessions will be held in-person at Elsie MacGill Secondary School (1410 Bronte St S, Milton) and are open to all parents/guardians and students in Grade 4 and above. Please note that these are the same films from the screenings held in August. The screenings include:
-
Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. - Screenagers: The Next Chapter: Addressing Youth Mental Health in the Digital Age
-
Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. - Screenagers: Under the Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs and Alcohol in the Digital Age
Families interested in attending can complete this registration form by Friday, Nov. 7.
