Join Us for Our First School Council Meeting!

We’re excited to invite all parents and guardians to our School Council meetings of the 2025–2026 school year. All meetings are held in the Library at 6:30PM.

This is a great opportunity to:

  • Meet the school administration team
  • Learn about upcoming events and initiatives
  • Get involved in our school community

Please note: Elected voting members of the School Council are expected to attend at least 50% of meetings.

1. School Update (15 mins) - Scott and Staff 

Principal’s Report 

● Looking for feedback on scheduling a common lunch. Grade 7 & 8 will remain the same. All grade 9 and 10 will have the same lunch and the seniors will continue to have lunch throughout the day depending on classes chosen. 

Teacher’s Reports (Elementary and Secondary) 

Elementary Update: 

● Looking for gently used books for the library and teachers' classrooms. Mrs Evans will reach out with some ideas on appropriate books for students in ⅞. 

● Looking for a coach for girls basketball. 

● Badminton has started 

● Leadership programs from feeder schools have started and continued to show great success. 

● Grade 8’s have started to use the sewing machines - any fabrics for donations would be greatly appreciated.

2. Financial Update (10 Mins) - Dan 

Money to spend tonight: 

● Elementary - $3740.88 

● High School - $1282.09 

● Whole School - $2912.09 

3. School Spending (15 mins) - Joanne / Caileah / Staff 

Elementary 

Motion: Spend $600.00 on Forge FC Game to bring down the cost of the trip. 1st - Catherine Moskal 2nd - Caileah Palmer 

● The consensus was to keep the remaining money in the account until the next meeting when exact costs of further financial asks can be determined. 

● High School - consensus was to keep money in the account until the next meeting ● Whole School - Consensus was to keep money in the account until the next meeting. 

4. High School Updates (5 mins) - Caileah 

● Caileah discussed the Garage Sale in late April / Early May. The fundraiser will involve, Lions Club for BBQ, Peach Coffee, and the Compassion society (for donations). It will be a community event and advertised throughout Aldershot Social Media. More planning to continue over the next few months. 

5. Elementary Updates (5 mins) - Joanne 

● Pizza, Subs and Popcorn going well but still in need of volunteers to continue the fundraising lunch program throughout the rest of the year. 

● Working to plan the Arts/Music fundraiser this spring. Anyone interested in helping should email aldershotcouncil@gmail.com

  • Meeting called to order at 6:34PM

  • Joanne let the council know about the passing of Judith Wanner (community council member). There was discussion about possibly planting a tree in her honour or donating to a local charity. More to come in the coming months.

  1. Corey Long - City of Burlington (15 mins) 

  • CIty of Burlington representative provided Aldershot Council with information about the various grants available to the Burlington Community. 1) Skating Rinks Grant - City of Burlington will set up and help to maintain a rink. 2) Building Community Grant - Grant would assist with building/updating a park, community garden etc. 3)Love My Neighbourhood - would assist with a street party or community event that would bring neighbours together. 

  1. Constitution Review and Vote (5 mins) - Dan 

  • No questions on the constitution. 

  • Motion to pass and adopt the new constitution 1st: Dan Mckeown 2nd: Caileah Palmer All in Favour: Carried. 

  1. School Update (10 mins) - Scott and Staff

  • Elementary: Leadership program set up with feeder schools and Aldershot each with a different activity. This will happen a couple of times throughout the year to introduce grade 6’s to the school. There will also be arts/science reading buddies. November 6th Grade 6’s came in and toured the school - the tour was run by the grade 9’s. 

  • Boundary Review - 2026 will be a boundary review but should hold no real impact on Aldershot School.

  • Crosswalk request: A crosswalk has been requested from the school to the city to help ease the traffic and student flow during peak times in morning and afternoon. 

  • Secondary: washroom hangouts will be strictly enforced - 1st time will be a warning followed by a suspension the second time. AP Classes coming for grade 11/12

  1. Financial Update (10 Mins) - Dan 

  • Money has started to come in from Pizza and Subs as well as Fresh from The Farm. No money to be spent at this meeting. A more detailed financial report will come in January. 

  1. Fundraising Committee (10 mins) - Joanne 

  • Elementary: Pizza and Subs are going well but will need volunteers in order to continue to run the programs. Mrs Evans suggested students - Joanne will reach out to get names of those that might be interested in helping. 

  • Fundraising Committee: Garage Sale Event - will discuss at next fundraising meeting. Card Fundraiser - Mrs Evans.
