.HALLOWEEN 2026 @ BROOKVILLE
On Friday, October 30th students will have the opportunity to wear their Halloween costumes to school. Students also have the option of wearing Orange and/or Black or their regular clothes as an alternative to a costume. Please read the following information regarding the appropriate selection of a costume for your child:
· Students will wear their costumes for the first two periods of the day (8:15-9:55 AM) Please ensure your child wears their regular clothes under their costume.
· Please leave accessories at home to avoid damage or loss ( wands, gloves, swords, etc.)
· Please do not send in costume masks.
· Please save ‘treats’ for home and not include them in snacks and lunches following Oct. 31.
· We will be taking lots of photos.
Costumes that mimic the traditional attire of an ethnic, religious, racial, or gender group/identity are inappropriate and unacceptable for Halloween at our school. This includes dressing in clothing of the opposite gender ‘in jest.’ Pretending to be a member of a group for ‘fun’ is evidence of cultural appropriation and sends the message that cultural attire is a ‘costume’ to be donned for entertainment purposes. Additionally, do not wear costumes that require you to assume a racialized minority or other marginalized identities. Assuming such an identity for entertainment purposes trivializes and disrespects the oppression of the group
Examples of costumes that mimic ethnic, religious, racial, or gender group/identity include:
● a caricature or representation of an Indigenous person by a person who does not have Indigenous Identity (e.g. Pocahontas)
● a person who is Transgender
● a person who is a Khalsa Sikh
● a person who is a Hasidic Jew
If you choose to dress up in a costume for Halloween, please ensure that you are contributing to the positive and prosocial climate that our school is cultivating around recognizing Halloween.
Costumes that are intended to, or have the impact of, inciting fear and anxiety for others are not acceptable costumes and special sensitivity needs to be exercised around current socially trending incidents such as people dressing up as characters from popular media and approaching youth to frighten them at random. In the past, this has included scary clowns.
Please remember that Halloween costumes should not incite fear and anxiety. As such, please refrain from bringing replica weapons or wearing costume masks to school. Thank you for your cooperation.
BRING YOUR FAVOURITE STORYBOOK CHARACTER TO LIFE
The Library Learning Commons will be getting into the fall spirit with its Annual Pumpkin/Gourd Storybook Character Decorating Contest.
Contest Rules:
Please use a small, easy to carry pumpkin or gourd (no bigger than a soccer ball please).
Creations must represent a character from a book and your pumpkin must be decorated at home and brought in to be displayed in our library.
On an index card write the following information:

Name, grade, and classroom teacher and what inspired you to create a replica of this character. Why do you think others should read this book?

No carved pumpkins/gourds please; anything carved will be disqualified since they attract insects. You may use paper, glue, paint, markers, pipe cleaners, fabric or other craft items to decorate your pumpkin/gourd and create your storybook character. Be original and have fun!
Contest categories:
1. JK to Grade 2 - “Family Created Pumpkin/Gourd Book Character”
2. Gr 3 to Gr 8 - “Student Created Pumpkin/Gourd Book Character”
Judges will be looking for evidence of student work and creativity.

MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS INFORMATION
The following information is shared on behalf of the Town of Milton, which oversees the administration of municipal elections in Milton.
Milton’s Municipal Elections take place on Monday, Oct. 16. Eligible voters can cast their ballot during advance voting from Oct. 12 to 15 or on Election Day. PARENT INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE (PIC) CONFERENCE
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th
The HDSB Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) invites parents/guardians and community members to attend the upcoming Parent Involvement Committee Conference on Saturday, October 24, from 9 am to 3:30 pm at Elsie MacGill Secondary School in Milton.
The theme for this year’s event is Get Connected. This free event will feature informative workshops, community partners and displays, and a Brunch and Learn session for collaboration and networking.
Child minding is available at no cost for Kindergarten-age children up to 12 years of age. Morning refreshments and lunch are also provided. Transportation may be available for attendees who require it to travel from various areas within Halton to the conference. Learn more and register on the HDSB website
