Advanced Placement (AP) is a program that allows students in secondary school to experience content that may be taught in introductory degree courses. The content taught in AP courses is reviewed and approved by post-secondary faculty. In Ontario schools offering AP courses, the AP content will be taught alongside Ontario Curriculum.
Students who enroll in AP courses should be motivated and academically prepared for the course content. AP courses will move at a faster pace and cover additional AP content beyond the Ontario curriculum.
AP exams are administered by schools worldwide in May. The dates of these exams are determined by the College Board (the non-profit organization that administers the AP program). Exams are typically 2-3 hours and can include multiple choice questions, essays, short answer questions, and oral response. The exam fee for May 2026 was $160/ exam. The exam fee is non-refundable and is due in October, the year prior to the exam period in May.
Program Overview

The Advanced Placement (AP) program empowers students to transform their natural curiosity into deep, advanced content knowledge. By engaging in comprehensive, high-level coursework, students cultivate sharp critical thinking and sophisticated research skills necessary to navigate complex academic landscapes. AP both fosters a culture of independent learning and prepares students to take ownership of their education today so they can lead tomorrow. Ultimately, this academic expertise does more than just prepare them for the future. It unlocks a world of flexibility and choice, giving them the freedom to tailor their unique educational journeys.
