About Us
Georgetown District High School (GDHS) traces its roots back to the late 19th century, with the original Georgetown High School officially opening in 1887 and relocating to its present site in 1889 — a building designed by noted Canadian architect Edward J. Lennox, whose other works include Toronto’s Old City Hall and Casa Loma. Over the years, GDHS has grown and evolved, committing itself to combining tradition with innovation, and continuing to serve as a pillar of academic leadership and community life in Georgetown and the surrounding region.
At GDHS, students benefit from a diverse and robust set of academic and experiential programs designed to support success and unlock future pathways. We offer Dual Credit opportunities that allow students to earn high school and college credits simultaneously in partnership with institutions like Humber and Sheridan, as well as Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) programs enabling learners in Grades 11 and 12 to focus on sector‑specific skills while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. For those seeking greater academic rigor, GDHS is one of HDSB's International Baccalaureate schools, offering the IBDP Prep Program in Grades 9 and 10 and the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11-12 to cultivate inquiry, global mindedness, and intellectual growth.
Beyond academics, GDHS supports each student’s holistic success through dedicated supports, enrichment and extracurricular life. Through volunteer programs, community involvement, robust athletics and clubs and a caring support network, GDHS seeks to nurture confident, well‑rounded graduates empowered to pursue success in post‑secondary studies, careers and citizenship.
