Wednesday, December 10, 2025

Good Morning MMR!

Today we recognize International Human Rights Day, an annual worldwide celebration marking the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10th 1948. This document affirms the fundamental rights and freedom inherent to every person, no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe.

To highlight this important day, the Advocates of Equity have created posters for each of the Declarations displayed around the school. At lunch or during a period off, we encourage you to take part in our Human Rights Scavenger Hunt! Look for the posters, scan the QR codes, and answer the questions for a chance to win prizes! This activity is a fun way to learn about the rights that help protect us, from the right to life, liberty, education, and security.

As we take time today to explore these rights, remember that building a just and equitable community starts with everyday actions such as speaking up, supporting each other, and choosing empathy even when it's difficult.

Let's keep working together to make our school a place where everyone feels valued and heard.

We hope you have a great day MMR!

GSA - The Gender-Sexuality Alliance

is meeting today at lunch in Room 323. ALL ARE WELCOME! Come down to check it out, get involved in our school community or just sit back and relax. Email Broadwell at broadwelld@hdsb.ca if you have any questions.

Coats For Kids Campaign 2025

Thank you to our MMR Community for each of the donations of gently used coats and jackets for the Burlington Community.  Together we almost doubled the goal of 50 coats and winter apparel for people in need of warm outerwear this winter season, as set out by Donnell Insurance!  Through your generosity, MMR will receive a $1000 scholarship for one of our graduating students this school year.

Protected Learning Time - Monday January 5 to Wednesday January, 21 2026

We want to remind families that the HDSB has designated the last 4 weeks of the semester as protected learning time. To maximize success and achievement, it is important for students to be in full attendance at school. Students are expected to attend all classes during this time. As previously communicated, the Final Evaluation Block schedule begins Thursday January 22, 2026.  Please see the Final Evaluation Block schedule and student expectations below:

  • Students are expected to complete all components of the Final 30% of their course(s).

  • The final tasks that comprise the Final 30% will have an impact on a student’s final grade in the course, and is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning.

  • Parents must call in their student absence if the student is not in-person to complete the final tasks as scheduled.

  • Final Evaluations start at 8:30 am each day of the schedule.

  • Students may leave the building for the day once they complete their final tasks.

  • Students do not come to school if they do not have a scheduled final task. Students in CPP will attend school for the full day during the Final Evaluation Block Schedule.

  • If buses are canceled on the Final Evaluation Days, final evaluations will still proceed as scheduled.

  • If the school is closed on a Final Evaluation Day, final evaluations that were to occur on the closure date will be rescheduled to Wednesday January 28, 2026.

  • A more detailed schedule will be shared in the New Year, but in short, credit courses with final evaluations/exams will occur as follows:

    • Thursday January 22, 2026 - Period 1 Credit Courses

    • Friday January 23, 2026 - Period 2 Credit Courses

    • Monday January 26, 2026 - Period 4 Credit Courses

    • Tuesday January 27, 2026 - Period 5 Credit Courses

  • Students will have an opportunity to see the results of their exams/final evaluations on Thursday January 29 2026.  It will be a modified morning schedule on this day. Attendance will be taken, and students are expected to attend.

  • Any questions regarding the Final 30% tasks should be directed to the classroom teacher.  Please see the list of staff emails

Public Health Immunization Student Record - Reminder

Over the holidays is a great time to update your mandatory immunization records with Public Health if not done so already to avoid a mandatory school suspension in the New Year.  Student immunization records can be viewed and updated online through Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON), available at halton.ca/immunize

***NOTE: ICON PINs expire when a student turns 16 years old and will need to be reset. In these cases, students should connect with halton.ca/immunize and follow the instructions for resetting a PIN. Students with incomplete records are encouraged to receive missing vaccine doses through their health care provider, or at a Public Health Community Immunization Clinic. Required vaccines are free of charge.  Parents with questions about their child’s record are encouraged to call 311 to speak to a public health nurse. If the student is 16/16+ the student is encouraged to call 311 themselves. Alternatively, if consent is provided by the student, the parent or guardian can speak on the student’s behalf. Information about vaccine exemption can be found at halton.ca/immunize

For more general information about Immunization in Ontario - see this Ministry of Health Informative Flier.  Additional Language Translations can be found on the Ministry website linked here.  For further inquiries, please consider:
