King’s Batton - Commonwealth Game Celebrations

Our student Eco-club organized a school-wide outdoor clean up as part of the Burlington Green community organization’s local initiative this past week.  A smaller clean-up event will be happening at the Burlington Beach on May 1st, and is connected with our school’s participation in the Commonwealth’s Clean Ocean and Waterways Plastics Campaign and King’s Baton Relay event in Burlington on May 6th. Our school’s namesake, Mr. M.M. ‘Bobby’ Robinson, was the founder of the Commonwealth Games. To celebrate M.M. ‘Bobby’ Robinson and our school history, our students have organized several activities and guest speakers.  The schedule is as follows:

Week of April 27, 2026

Various trivia games about MM Robinson, his legacy and local history.

Monday May 4, 2026

Students can visit the information displays in the foyer during their lunch period about Bobby Robinson and his legacy.

Tuesday May 5, 2026

Students will see a short video message from the Commonwealth Games committee.

The King’s Baton comes to MMR and passes through the halls.

Kick off presentation with guest speakers - MP, MPP, and professional athletes (Period 5, 1:40-2:10) - still to be confirmed.

Students watch the boys’ rugby game against Iroquois Ridge with their classes (Period 5, 2:10-2:52).

Wednesday May 6, 2026
