Why is the FI program not offered for grades 9-12 at Aldershot HS?
- The Burlington Secondary School Program and Accommodation Review Report 17075 recommended a magnet program be explored at Aldershot HS, resulting in the current I-STEM program. Uptake applications in the I-STEM program resulted in lower numbers of students in the French Immersion program at the secondary level. Enrolments failed to meet the threshold for a successful FI program.
- In February 2020, Report 20024 Aldershot High School - French Immersion Boundary recommended students from grade 8 FI at Aldershot Elementary Public School be directed to Burlington Central HS for grades 9-12.
- Given the continued uptake into ISTEM from the French Immersion program, enrolments will continue to fail meeting the minimum threshold for a renewed program.
- Current enrolment projections indicate that French Immersion is only sustainable at one location (i.e.- Aldershot or Burlington Central).
