Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)
In Ontario’s education system, all partners acknowledge the positive impact of parent engagement on student achievement. Students are supported and inspired to learn in a culture of high expectations.
School Councils
All schools in Ontario are to have a school council. They are important advisory bodies to the schools and school board. The purpose of a school council is, through the active participation of parents, to improve student achievement and increase accountability of the education system to parents.
Volunteer in HDSB Schools
The Halton District School Board values and recognizes that volunteers enhance the learning experiences of our students and strengthen school and community partnerships. Volunteering is an opportunity to model and promote the value of developing positive relationships as caring and contributing citizens within our community. Schools welcome parents, guardians and community members as volunteers who support the life of the school (such as field trips, breakfast programs, school council, safe arrival or careers day). Please contact the school for specific volunteer needs within the school.
All volunteers will have a Police Vulnerable Sector Record Check. For further information refer to the Halton Regional Police Service website. If there is a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening on file at the school, the volunteer is required to complete the HDSB's Annual Offence Declaration for subsequent years.

The Education Act empowers boards to collect personal information under section 315, subsections 1, 2 and 3. Thus the requirement of a Police Record Check may be authorized by a board “to ensure the safety of pupils". Personal information is defined in s. 315(3) as having “the same meaning as in s. 38 of Freedom of Information and protection of Privacy Act and s. 28 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act".

The HDSB wants to hear your questions and concerns. To ensure your questions and concerns can be addressed as quickly as possible, please review the following information to know who you should reach out to and when. As issues are best addressed at the level closest to the issue, your child’s school is the first point of contact in any situation.
