Kindergarten Registration Now Open

2025-2026 School Year

Children in the Halton District School Board attend full-day Kindergarten, five days a week. Each class is led by a team that includes a certified teacher and a Designated Early Childhood Educator. Learn more about the HDSB Kindergarten program.

Who Can Start Kindergarten in Fall 2025?

  • Junior Kindergarten (Year 1): Your child must be 4 years old by December 31, 2025
  • Senior Kindergarten (Year 2): Your child must be 5 years old by December 31, 2025

Note: If your child is already attending Year 1 Kindergarten in an HDSB school, you do not need to register again for Year 2.

Start the Registration Process for Kindergarten

Complete the Kindergarten Parent Questionnaire. You can fill this out online or at your school starting in January.

  • Report Immunizations
    Submit your child’s immunization records to Halton Public Health or call 311.
  • Check for Confirmation.
    You’ll receive a confirmation email once your child’s registration is complete.
  • Ask Questions.
    Contact your child’s school directly if you need help or have questions.

Choose How You Want to Register

Option 1: Register In-Person

You can register in-person at your local school.

Please complete the Student Registration Form prior to visiting the school. Please bring the completed registration form with you. ​ Registration forms must be completed by the Parent/Guardian, or student if 18 years of age or older. 

Important: Required Documents ​to Complete Registration​

Documents needed for registration

Please bring the following required documents to complete your registration in-person.​

The following documents are required to complete registration​ at your appointment. 

These include:

Proof of child’s age: (any one of the following documents):

    1. ​Birth Certificate
    2. Baptismal Record 
    3. Canadian Passport 
    4. Canadian Citizenship Card or Certificate 
    5. Record of Landing (IMM 1000) 
    6. Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) 
    7. Permanent Residence Card 
    8. Consideration of Eligibility (IMM 1442) 
    9. Acknowledgement of Refugee Claim (IMM 1442) or Notice of Decision letter for refugee claimants 
    10. Convention Refugee Determination Division Letter 
    11. Temporary Resident Permit 
    12. Registered Indian Status or 
    13. Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS)​

Proof of address may be obtained from any two current documents, which must:

  • show the home address for the student living with the parent(s)/guardian(s);
  • contain at least one parent/guardian’s name;
  • be an original. Copies will not be accepted.

Examples include:

  • ​Property tax bill/MPAC notice of assessment (must be current - within the past year); 
  • Purchase and sale agreement, including proof of purchase and closing date, provided before the student attends school (must be current - within the past year);
  • Bank statement/financial letter from a Canadian Financial Institution. The document must be stamped by the financial institution (financial details can be obscured and must be current - within two months);
  • Any CRA document (i.e., Notice of Assessment, Canada Child Benefit, Goods and Services tax/Harmonized sales tax (GST/HST credit), Housing Benefits (must be current - within the past year); 
  • Utility bill/e-bill (i.e., hydro, gas, water, residential phone, cable, internet, insurance policy-home, rental or auto)(must be current - within two months) - only one from this category can be used; 
  • Other official Provincial or Federal government documents that include parent(s)/guardian(s) names and address (must be current – within the past year);
  • Official Ontario Residential Tenancy Agreement (not one that is hand-made by the landlord) that is current to the end of the upcoming school year; Registration and Admission of Students Administrative Procedure

Documents which are not acceptable include:

  • ​​Driver’s License, Vehicle Ownership (green card) and Vehicle Lease 
  • Health Card 
  • Credit Card Statement 
  • Cell Phone bill/e-bill

Proof of child’s citizenship: birth certificate or passport, Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Permanent Resident Card

Proof of parent/guardian's citizenship/immigration​ status: Passport, citizenship card, PR cards or records of landing, refugee documents, study or work permits

Proof of custody: if you are not the parent and your child is under 18 you must provide proof of custody (court order)​​

​​Proof of immunization: For a child to attend school, parents and legal guardians must report required immunizations to Halton Region Public Health or submit a valid vaccine exemption. Visit Halton Region’s Report Your Immunizations webpage to view or report immunization records.

Option 2: Pre-register Online

Begin the online pre-registration process for new HDSB students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents residing in Halton.​

  1. Visit the HDSB Online Student Pre-registration Form portal and "request a new account" to begin the process.
  2. Once you have submitted the online form, you will receive a confirmation email indicating you’ve successfully completed pre-registration.
  3. Summer online registration submissions made during the summer break will be reviewed during the week of August 18, 2025. You will be contacted by the school office staff at that time to schedule an appointment for documentation verification. For submissions made outside the summer break, you will be contacted at the schools earliest convenience of your online submission to arrange an appointment. Please ensure you bring the required documents to your scheduled appointment.

Option 3: New and/or Returning to Ontario?

Use the Where Do I Register Tool to guide you to where to begin your registration process - your home school OR at the Welcome Centre.​ The Where Do I Register Tool ​will help you navigate the registration process for your child within the HDSB. Please respond to these questions for each child you wish to register separately.
