Environmental Leadership
Student-led Action on Climate Change
In June 2020, the Halton District School Board (HDSB) Board of Trustees passed its first Student-led Climate Emergency Declaration. This initiative was driven by students who:
- Acknowledged their role in taking climate action
- Called on the Board to listen to student voices
- Asked to be included in sustainability planning
- Sought recognition for student-led environmental leadership
Student Sustainability Leadership Award
The Student Sustainability Leadership Award recognizes outstanding student leadership in environmental action and aims to inspire others to get involved.
- Open to all HDSB students — anyone can nominate a student.
- Student initiatives can take place within a school or in the local community.
- Submissions are reviewed by a selection committee of students and HDSB staff.
- Awards are presented by Student Senators or Environmental Management Team members at a Student Senate meeting or the student’s home school.
