If you had this thought, you’re in luck!  The first Blakelock Ski and Snowboard day trip will happen this February!  One day, bus to and from Mt St Louis Moonstone!  This is open to all students.  If you are interested, the first 50 students to pay on cashless guarantee their spot.  Once you’ve paid, go to the math office to get the forms to be signed.

Good morning Tigers,

February marks Black History Month, a time to recognize, celebrate, and reflect on the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black communities, past and present.  Black history is not separate from Canadian history - it is Canadian history.

One notable Black Canadian we recognize today is Donovan Bailey.  An Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder, Bailey became the fastest man in the world in 1996 and helped put Canada on the global stage in track and field.  His success broke barriers and inspired generations of athletes across the country.

Throughout this month, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and celebrate the impact of Black Canadians who continue to shape our country.

Any girls interested in trying out for this year’s Touch Football team are asked to attend an information meeting today at the start of lunch in S204 with Mr. Stevens.  This is a Varsity team, so girls in grades 9 though 12 are encouraged to come out.  Last year’s season was amazing, and this year promises to be even better.

Today is the 4th of February and the 4th day of Black History Month.  Today we recognize Angela James, a women's hockey player who is often referred to as the “Wayne Gretzky of women's hockey”.  Angela James was one of the first superstars of women's ice hockey.  She is a four-time world champion, a brilliant goal scorer, and a role model honoured in the community in which she grew up with an arena bearing her name.  Angela was born in 1964 and raised in the Flemingdon Park neighbourhood in Toronto.  She was also one of the first three women to be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame and the second Black player to be inducted.  Her success was groundbreaking and inspires so many young athletes to this day. 

Throughout this month, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and celebrate the impact of Black Canadians who continue to shape our country.

In recognition of Black History Month, we highlight Katherine Johnson, a pioneering mathematician whose work at NASA helped launch the first U.S. astronauts into space and guided the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.  Despite facing racial and gender barriers, her precision, intelligence, and perseverance played a crucial role in advancing space exploration.

As we continue this month, we encourage everyone to learn more about Black innovators who have shaped history.

In sports, our Ski/Snowboard team travels to Blue Mountain today to compete in the GHAC championship. Our Senior Boys Hockey team will travel to Abbey Park to face the Eagles, and our Bantam Basketball team hosts an all day tournament here at TAB in the large gym. Go Tigers!

 

Congratulations to the Girls Hockey team for extending their winning streak to 14 games with a 4-3 win over Abbey Park yesterday.  Holly Brimacombe led the offence with two goals and Audrey Slaney put home the game winning goal. Great work Tigers!

 

Anyone interested in trying out for Girls Soccer will need to see Ms Miller in E203 for an athletic form.

What a day at the pool for our Swim Team!

Breaststroke set the tone early!
The pool was on notice when Mel H exploded to 1st place in the Senior Girls 50 breaststroke with a blazing fast swim.  Zayden followed with a dominant 1st place in the Senior Boys 50 breaststroke, while Raymond powered to 4th in Junior Boys and Reis crushed a personal best in the Senior Boys race. In longer distance action, Raya battled hard in the Open Girls 100 breaststroke, finishing 7th.

Backstroke brought the fireworks!
Natalie delivered one of the swims of the meet, dropping nearly two seconds to take 2nd place in the Senior Girls 50 backstroke.  JJ was unstoppable, winning 1st place in the Senior Boys 50 backstroke, while Kaya raced strong to 5th in the Open 100 backstroke.

Freestyle was pure speed and depth!
Nyla had an outstanding day, earning 2nd in the Junior Girls 100 freestyle and backing it up with 2nd in the Junior Girls 50 freestyle.  Cameron, overcoming some serious obstacles this year, flew to 3rd place in the open Girls 100 freestyle, with Chloe close behind in 4th.  On the senior boys side, Justin finished 5th, Joaquin 6th, and Reis 10th in the 100 freestyle.  Sprint freestyle saw Addison place 8th in Funior Girls, Raymond 11th and Nolan 14th in junior boys, Riley 8th in senior girls, and Justin (7th), Jaoquin (9th), and Reis (10th) for Senior Boys.  Huge shoutout to Michal, who placed 3rd in the Open Girls 50 freestyle, qualifying for GHAC!

Butterfly was straight domination!
Addison soared to 1st place in the Junior Girls 50 fly, Romeo crushed the field to win 1st in the Senior Boys 50 fly, and Mel H added another podium finish with 2nd place in the Senior Girls 50 fly.

IM events sealed the individual races in style!
Natalie struck again, winning 1st place in the Senior Girls 100 IM. Zayden and Romeo went 1st and 2nd in the Senior Boys 100 IM, while Cameron owned the pool with a phenomenal win in the Open Girls 100 IM 4/100ths from Ms Oldershaw’s time this year! We have a feeling Ms O will be left in the dust come OFSAA.  Strong swims also came from Michal (7th Open Girls), Nolan (7th Junior Boys).

And then…the relays brought the house down!
The Senior Boys medley relay of Zayden, JJ, Romeo, and Justin absolutely dominated, winning by almost 10 seconds. The Open Girls 4x50 medley relay, Michal, Mel, Cameron, and Chloe won in fine fashion by over 6 seconds and qualified for OFSAA!  The mixed relay of Riley, Addison, Nolan, and Raymond powered to 4th, qualifying for GHAC.  In freestyle relays, the Senior Girls 4x50 free team (Riley, Natalie, Nyla, Mel) fought hard for 3rd, the Senior Boys 4x50 free finished a tight 2nd, and the Open Girls 4x50 free relay closed the meet in spectacular fashion with a 12-second victory!

What a meet!  What a team!  Absolute dominance from start to finish!

Our Sr. Boys came 2nd!  With only 7 swimmers, they won or came 2nd in every race they entered!  Way to go boys!

Next week on Wednesday is Photo Day!  If you are a new student or missed getting your photo taken in the fall, get ready.  Edge Photography will be in the Cafeteria and students will be called down by grade.  Each photographed student will receive their student ID card and their photo will appear in the 2025/2026 yearbook.  There is no cost to have a photo taken.  Get your smile on! 

 

It’s an exciting day in sports, our Senior Boys Hockey team will play Milton District today, and our Senior Girls Hockey team will play in an all day tournament in Milton.  When you see these athletes before they go make sure you wish them well!  Go Tigers!

What a day at the pool!
The team competed at the GHAC Championships and did incredible!

Melanie Heuft set a GHAC record, winning the Sr Girls 50 Breaststroke.  She was 2nd in the 50 Fly.

Zayden Dindayal broke a 20-year-old GHAC record in the 100 Individual Medley and set a new GHAC record in the 50 Breaststroke!

JJ Rubanovich set a GHAC record in the Sr Boys 50 back, and came second in the 50 Breast.

The Sr Boys Medley Relay of Zayden, JJ, Romeo & Justin smashed the GHAC record by almost 3 seconds!
The Open Girls Medley Relay: Michal, Melanie, Cameron & Chloe came 1st.

Natalie Pisek was 3rd in the Sr Girls 50 Back.

Nyla Wiese was 2nd in the Jr Girls 100 Free and 50 Free.

Romeo Laberge won the Sr Boys 50 Fly and was 2nd in the 100 Individual Medley.

Cameron Coxson was 3rd in the Open Girls 100 Individual Medley.

We will have 9 Swimmers competing at OFSAA in March!

Today’s the day Tigers!  Get ready for our Sr. Boys Hockey Buyout Game and we hear there’s a white out in effect at Trafalgar!  That’s right, the boys will be rocking their white jerseys to match the festive weather.  Bus leaves at 11:00 am so please meet at the main doors for bus entry if you’ve purchased a ticket.

 

Have you ever wondered why swimmers wear parkas on the pool deck?  It;s because, unlike penguins, we weren't blessed with built-in insulation.  Without our trusty parkas, we'd be out there shivering like confused zoo exhibits.  Now that you know our chilly secret, the swim team is on a mission to get our very own glorious parkas!  And you can help; while cleaning out your house.  We're hosting a Scrap Metal Drive on January 17th.  Gor metal junk?  Fantastic!  Bring us your old appliances, copper, random garage gremlins made of steel, even old cars (or their batteries).  If it's metal, we'll take i; and turn it into warm swimmers.

 

Relay for Life committee members: There will be a meeting on Thursday for elected committee members only.  If you received an email in June regarding your position, please plan to attend!!!  Check our instagram and listen to announcements for more information on where our meeting will be!  Hope to see you there.

Monday, December 15

Last Friday, our Boys’ Hockey team traveled to London and brought home the Titans Cup tournament championship!  Player of the Game honours went to Bartu, Nolan, Cooper, and Rhys.  A special congratulations goes to Nishan, who was named Tournament MVP. Way to represent our school! 

 

Attention students!  Tomorrow is our Boys’ Hockey buyout game, and it’s a full-on White Out!  We’re asking all fans to wear WHITE and pack the barn. This is the last day to buy tickets, and there are only a few spots left—don’t miss out!  Let’s bring the energy, bring the noise, and show our support!

Swim Team Results – Congratulations!

The Blakelock Swim Team had an impressive showing at yesterday’s meet! Highlights include:

• Michal, Cameron, Melisa, and Chloe won both their 4x50 Free and 4x50 Medley relays

• The men’s 4x50 Free Relay teams placed 2nd and 7th

• The men’s 4x50 Medley Relay teams placed 1st and 13th

• Cameron won the Sr. 100 IM by 6.7 seconds and also won the 50 Fly

• Sr. Boys swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 100 IM (Zayden, Romeo & JJ)

• Multiple top finishes in breaststroke, freestyle, fly, and rookie events—including first-ever meets!

Senior Girls Basketball – Quarterfinals Victory

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Basketball team for their massive upset over Nelson yesterday in the quarter finals of the Tier 1 playoffs. Cross Country – GHAC Championships Results

On Tuesday, the Tigers Cross Country Team travelled to Bronte Creek Provincial Park to compete in the GHAC Championships. With numerous top 20 finishes, highlights of the day came in the form of 2 OFSAA berths from Junior Harrison Crowe and Senior Ethan Deveaux, who was also the GHAC silver medalist. In heartbreaking fashion, our Senior Boys team missed a trip to OFSAA, coming out on the wrong end of a tiebreaker. Please return your Cross Country singlet to Mr. Rochus ASAP.

Junior Girls Basketball – Huge Comeback Win

A massive shoutout to the Junior Girls Basketball team for their huge comeback victory yesterday over the undefeated and first place Hayden Huskies. Players of the game Diyenka Senanayake and Rowen Stinson combined for 30 points as the Tigers came back from a 15 point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the game. Great work Tigers!

Cross Country – Schnurricane Classic Highlights

Yesterday was the Schnurricane Classic at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. The Tigers had home-course advantage and showed it with great results. Ethan Deveaux was third in the Senior Boys race, Harrison Crowe scored a top 5 finish in the Junior Boys race, and Rianne Lee was our top female finisher, placing 14th in a competitive Junior Girls race. The story of the day was the Senior Boys taking home the team title with the best score out of 13 teams. Big thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Every Child Matters

Today is the International Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The TRC asked Canada to set aside a day for reflection and awareness in honouring the survivors of residential schools. We do this by commemorating the residential school experience, witnessing and honouring the healing journey of the Survivors and their families, and by reminding ourselves that we are all treaty people on treaty lands. Cross Country Team – Strong Performance at Gryphon Open

Yesterday the Cross Country Team travelled to Christie Lake Conservation Area for the most challenging meet outside of OFSAA, the Gryphon Open. The Tigers took on close to 1300 other runners and showed huge amounts of grit. Ethan Deveaux was the top scorer on the day, taking home gold in the Senior Boys race.

Terry Fox Run, Assembly and BBQ – Event Details

We’ll kick things off with a Terry Fox assembly after Period 2, and then we will head outside for the Terry Fox Run/Walk! It’s a 5k trail for the runners and a 3k for those who want to walk! Afterwards we will head to the field for a BBQ! We have burgers, hotdogs, veggie dogs, freezes and pop for sale, in person with cash or available on School Cash Online.

Don’t forget, the Terry Fox Run is this Thursday, September 25. Keep those donations rolling in, and bring them to your Period 2 class! Let’s reach our goal of $3,000!

Also remember to bring some cash to take part in the fun on Thursday! Get ready for Soak-a-Senior, your chance to drench a senior with a bucket of water! Buckets are priced at $2 for small, $4 for medium, and $10 for MEGA JUMBO SPLASH. All proceeds go towards cancer research.

Terry Fox Run – One Week Away

We are now a week away from the Terry Fox run! Before, let’s take a moment to remember who Terry was and why we run. Terry Fox was only 18 when he lost his leg to cancer, but instead of giving up, he set out on his Marathon of Hope. He ran a marathon a day to raise money for cancer research. He inspired millions, and today, we continue his dream through the Terry Fox Run. Let’s honour his courage by giving our best effort and raising funds for this important cause! You can now start donating by bringing a loonie, toonie or dollar bills to your second period class, from now until September 25th. Let’s all try our best to reach our goal by raising $3000 for cancer research.
