French Language courses emphasize the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in French. Students learning French achieve a strong level of fluency and cultural learning. Students graduating from our senior French program earn a Grade 12 Certificate of Completion.

This course emphasizes the further development of oral communication, reading, and writing skills.  Students will build on and apply their knowledge of French while exploring a variety of themes, such as relationships, trends, and careers.  Thematic readings, which include a selection of short stories, articles, and poems, will serve as stepping-stones to oral and written activities.

This is an introductory course for students in Grade 9, 10 and 11 who have little or no knowledge of French or who have not accumulated the minimum of 600 hours of elementary Core French instruction. Students will begin to understand and speak French in guided and structured interactive settings, and will develop fundamental skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through discussing issues and situations that are relevant to their daily lives. Throughout the course, students will develop their awareness of diverse French-speaking communities in Canada and acquire an understanding and appreciation of these communities. They will also develop a variety of skills necessary for lifelong language learning.

This course enables students to increase their knowledge of the French language, further develop their language skills, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of francophone culture around the world. Exploring a variety of themes, students will develop and apply critical thinking skills in discussion, in their analysis and interpretation of texts, and in their own writing.
