I Have Resolve Foundation - Thank You!

We extend our deepest gratitude to Jennine from the I Have Resolve Foundation whose generous funding directly empowers neurodiversity-affirming practices and provides the vital tools necessary to foster true inclusion. Providing proper tools and specialized materials is absolutely essential to creating an inclusive classroom where every student can truly thrive and belong. This support is so important in a school environment, as it ensures that neurodivergent students feel safe, valued, and fully equipped to achieve their highest potential alongside their peers. We are incredibly appreciative of this organization and the support they offer students in schools. Thank you!

Thank you to Mrs. Allen and some of our Grade 7 and 8 students for creating beautiful pieces of artwork and sharing messages on Youth Mental Health which are displayed at the Burlington Art Avenue 2 Exhibit! This is our second year participating and we are so proud!

What makes this year’s tournament even more special is that some of the matches are taking place in Canada and Team Canada is playing! Let’s show our EVP Spirit next Friday and wear your favourite team’s colours/jersey or red and white for Team Canada!

Bike (Walk or Scooter) To School Results

Great job EVP! We were in the top 6 schools in Halton with our participation, way to go! Riding, walking and scootering are such great ways to stay active and the weather has been absolutely perfect for it.

Please take some time to review safety tips on the HDSB’s Walk & Wheel to School webpage, https://www.hdsb.ca/schools/buses-and-transportation/walk-wheel-to-school//

Safety Tips for Walking and Riding

  • Map out and review walking/biking route to school with your child, identify streets and landmarks on the route, review traffic signs and stop sign rules

  • When crossing roads always cross at corner, stop and look for traffic

  • Do not step out in front of parked cars or snow banks without checking for on-coming traffic

  • Be aware, no listening to music or text/talking on phone while walking or riding

  • Use sidewalks where possible, walk on the left facing traffic, in single file

  • Be sure to wear a properly fitted helmet when bicycling and scootering

  • Have a bell on your bike to let others walking to school know you are passing

  • Walk your bike and scooters across the street

  • Dress appropriately for the weather (waterproof, warm, scarf, hat, mittens, etc.)

  • Wear clothing or carry knapsacks with reflective material that can be seen by car drivers

  • Bring a change of clothes when walking or riding in inclement weather

  • Walk with a friend for safety and awareness

We also invite you to visit the Cycling in Halton webpage for information: https://www.halton.ca/for-residents/regional-roads/cycling-in-halton

Virtual Announcements Prompt of the Day

Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion: In Ontario, everyone has Human Rights. That means that every single person has the right to be treated with kindness, fairness and respect always. Why is it important to have Human Rights?

Halton Learning Foundation - Thank a Teacher Campaign

As the school year winds down, the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) invites families to take part in the ‘Thank a Teacher’ campaign, a meaningful initiative to recognize the incredible contributions of teachers and school staff across HDSB.

Beyond lessons and assignments, students are learning how to be kind, how to persevere, and how to believe in themselves. Much of that learning is made possible by educators who show up in quiet but powerful ways.

It may be the teacher who noticed a student struggling and offered encouragement.

The staff member who made a child feel included.

The educator who stayed a little longer to help something click.

Or a retiring teacher whose years of care have shaped countless lives.

These moments may not always be visible, but they are deeply felt.

Through the Thank a Teacher campaign, you are invited to honour an educator, a staff member, or a retiree with a donation in their name. Your gratitude becomes meaningful support for students in need across our community.

When a gift is made, you can send a personalized card and message to the honoured educator, letting them know someone recognized their compassion and paid it forward.

Honour an educator by visiting thankmyteacher.ca

This week is Mental Health Week.  EVP participated in learning about mental health and activities to support well-being. This year, each day had a theme which we shared during morning announcements and students would have discussed the strategies in class!  Here are the daily themes we shared: Motivational Monday, Talk About It Tuesday, Wellness Walk Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Fun Friday!  We talked about finding joy in moments in the day and through connections with others. We hope your children find joy at EVP!

For our Multi-Year Strategic Plan Prompt of the Day was: EVP has been full of music recently. We’ve had Manie Musicale, Music Monday, Move-A-Thon, and Thursday, the grade 8 band performed at Wonderland. Did you know that music benefits our mental health and well-being? What role does music play in your daily life?

Thank you so much for keeping our school community safe!!

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month has come to a close! We thank all families who have provided support to HLF throughout this month. Your generosity helps make a lasting difference in the lives of HDSB students.

Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.

There’s still time to make an impact. To learn more or continue the support for HLF Month, visit the HLF Month webpage on the HLF website (haltonlearningfoundation.ca).

We hope you had a great week!

Spring has finally arrived and what a wonderful time to walk/bike/scoot to school! We are so thankful for the hundreds of students and families that walk/bike/scoot to school. We also know many of you park farther away and walk the last few blocks to school to reduce congestion around the school, way to go! Some of you may have noticed the pylons placed in areas where no stopping or drop off can occur. Please plan your morning accordingly so that your child arrives at school on time as you will need to park further away if you choose to drive your child to school. In addition, stopping on the road is not permitted and students walking between parked cars is unsafe. We urge you to work in partnership with us so that students, staff and families are safe. Thank you.

The Anxious Generation Book Club

We are excited to invite parents/guardians to join our Community Book Club, where we will be reading and discussing The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. This timely book examines how technology, parenting, and changing childhood experiences are affecting the mental health and well-being of young people. Together, we will reflect on how these ideas relate to our own children and explore practical ways to support confidence, resilience, and balance in a digital world. We invite you to complete this Google Form to express interest in the Book Club.

Class Building

As we plan for the 2026 - 2027 school year, we will soon begin to work on building classes. Our goal is to create well-balanced classes that are a good fit for each and every one of our students. We carefully consider learning, academic, and social skills as well as other information provided by families when making class placement decisions.

You are welcome to submit requests that share more about your child and the type of learning environment in which they work best. However, please note that requests for specific teachers will not be considered. Additionally, please note that requests will be considered to inform, but not direct, class building decisions, as our ultimate goal is to build classes that ensure the success of all students.  We value your input and if you have specific information about your child that you think would be helpful for us to consider during the process, please complete this Google Form by Friday, May 15th.

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month - April

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month is here! April 2026 is the third annual HLF Month and HDSB schools and community members are coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the financial support, provided by HLF, that many HDSB students need to fully engage in learning such as school supplies, food and clothing.

Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.

Families can learn more about the Halton Learning Foundation and how to support HLF Month by visiting the HLF Month webpage on the HLF website (haltonlearningfoundation.ca).

This year, EVP will be participating by raising money for the Halton Learning Foundation and hosting a Move-a-thon!  We will hold Toonie Tuesdays for the month of April! Students are invited to bring in a Toonie either Tuesday, April 21st or Tuesday, April 28th! Thank you for your support for this important initiative!

Homestay Hosts Needed in Halton

Each year, the HDSB’s International Student Program (ISP) welcomes students into schools, and as a result, our programs benefit, our community benefits and local students create lifelong friendships and global connections. Canada Homestay Network (CHN) is currently looking for hosts in Halton for international students joining the HDSB during the 2026-2027 school year.

The HDSB has received a strong number of applications for the 2026-2027 school year, including several students who will be staying for a shorter period of approximately three to four months. This creates a great opportunity for families who may be interested in short-term hosting.

Hosting an international student is a unique and rewarding experience. You'll give a young learner a life-changing opportunity while creating lasting memories for your own family. As a host, you provide a private bedroom, three daily meals, access to WiFi and laundry and a welcoming, supportive and safe home. CHN offers full training, 24/7 support and a monthly stipend.

CHN will be hosting two virtual information sessions for families interested in learning more about becoming a homestay host:

For more information about becoming a host for an international student, please visit the Become a Homestay Host webpage of the HDSB website (hdsb.ca) or contact hostinfo@canadahomestaynetwork.ca, call 1-877-441-4443 or visit: https://whyihost.ca
