Subject: Milton District High School Expansion Update
Dear Milton District HS community,
I am writing to share an update regarding upcoming construction projects at our school that will modernize and enhance our learning spaces and support our growing community to ensure the long-term sustainability of our facilities.
Milton District High School has received funding from the Ministry of Education for an expansion project that will create an additional 412 student spaces and 88 licensed child care spaces at our school, helping us meet our current needs and the future growth of our school community.
Phase 1 of the project is complete. During that time, work was focused on improving accessibility, upgrading our boiler plants, installing new fire alarm systems and extending our parking lot. Construction for Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in July, which will include:
- The removal of our existing school office, guidance office and cafeteria; and
- The construction of a new addition to our building which will include the new main office, guidance office, cafeteria and servery, child care facility, elevator, additional classrooms, specialized science labs, a family studies room and washrooms on each floor.
This expansion will ensure we can continue to provide a welcoming and enhanced learning environment as our community grows. Once the construction of the addition is complete, we will begin Phase 3 of the project, which includes retrofitting some existing spaces within the school.
Please note that during construction, the cafeteria will be temporarily closed and alternate spaces for students to eat lunch will be provided. Main corridors will be protected with secure, weatherproof temporary walls so students can move between classes safely and without disruption. Additionally, a site coordinator will be present to manage construction-related traffic, directing all drop-offs and deliveries to designated zones.
I understand that construction projects can be challenging to navigate, and we are committed to supporting students, staff and families throughout the process.
Further information including construction progress and updates will be shared on our school website (hdsb.ca/mil/) over the summer. Additional information about what to expect when returning to school in the fall will be shared with students and families before the start of the school year in September.
I appreciate your support, patience and partnership as we navigate these changes together to create an enhanced learning space that will meet the current and future needs of Milton District High School, and support student success for years to come.
Sincerely,
Pam Jenkins
Principal
