Jr Girls Volleyball:

The Jr Girls Volleyball Team had their first season game last night and won all three sets against WOSS. Shoutout to Lily, Shyla and Lauren for each having a 5+ serving run during the game! Wish the team luck in their Tournament today at Milton District!

Attention all programmers and coders of OT! Coding club is hosting OT’s FIRST Hackathon in more than 5 years, on December 15th! In groups of 2-3, work together to form a project on the theme provided on the event day! To register, please pay the $5 entrance fee on school cash online, all proceeds go to the Oakville Hospital Foundation! All skill levels are welcome. Look out for information posters throughout the school.

Coding Contests:

The University of Waterloo's Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) is a fun challenge for students with an interest in programming. Register by paying on School Cashless Online. The deadline for registration is February 10, and the contest day is on February 18.

Anti-Bullying Week:

Everyone has the right to feel safe at school, in your community and online. If you feel like you are being bullied, talk to someone you trust: a friend, a teacher, a coach or a counsellor. Adult intervention stops bullying. Tell someone so they can help stop the harassment. You don’t have to deal with this alone! If you feel like you can’t report this out loud, you can use the HDSB Report Bullying tool on the Oakville Trafalgar school website. Other ways to deal with bullying are to take away the bully’s power. Stand tall – even when you feel small. Smile – even when you want to cry. Act brave – even though you are scared. Hang out with friends who support you. Walk in groups, not by yourself. Enroll in activities or sports that you enjoy and make you feel good.

You have human rights. You have dignity. You matter! Stand up for yourself without being aggressive – because using aggression almost always makes the problem worse. If you witness bullying, instead of ignoring it, tell a teacher, coach or counsellor, move toward or next to the victim to offer your support, use your voice and  say “stop”, befriend the victim and lead the victim away from the situation. 

This is our call to action to every person in our Oakville Trafalgar High School community.What are you doing to stop and prevent bullying from happening at Oakville Trafalgar High School?

Bullying Prevention:

Cyberbullying is one place that teens feel bullied. The anonymous and instant nature of the Internet makes it easy to believe people can say or do what they want without repercussions. But there are rules for safe and acceptable online behaviour. 

• Never treat someone online in a way that you wouldn’t feel comfortable doing face-to-face.

• Never share passwords with anyone other than a trusted adult.

• Never share cellphone numbers or email addresses unless you know and trust the person.

• Never share personal information or photos in a chat room.

• Never post, email or forward naked photos of yourself – or anyone else – to anyone.

Even if you didn’t create an email or message, simply forwarding it to friends means you have participated in the bullying of another and are now part of the problem. Before you send an email, a message or a photo consider the following:

• Is this hurtful? Is it intended to be hurtful? Would you find it funny if you were the subject of this message?

• Is this message meant to hurt someone’s reputation? If so, you could be accused of libel. If found guilty, you will be responsible for paying damages to the person you hurt.

• Is this a sexual image of an underage teen? If so, you could be found guilty of distributing child pornography, which could result in a jail sentence.

If you delete it and refuse to pass it on, you become part of the solution. Be a part of the solution! What are you doing to stop and prevent bullying from happening at Oakville Trafalgar High School?

Event!  On November 25th, Mrs. Hanley is taking interested students to this Ontario-wide Multi-day career fair which connects students with the best skilled trades professionals.  Students will discover the potential of a career in the skilled trades with hands-on experiences, interactive exhibits and mentorship from real industry experts and representatives from businesses, associations, post-secondary institutions and more! Permission forms are available in the main office and in guidance.  Please return forms by tomorrow to the main office or Mrs. Hanley in room 108.

Bullying Prevention Week:

Did you know…Reporting bullying is an effective way to stop the violence.

Bullying is a relationship problem. It is about power and the abuse of power and it is incredibly difficult for individuals who are being victimized to remove themselves from this destructive relationship. Once a bullying relationship is established, attempts to make the bullying stop on their own are usually unsuccessful and may make the bullying worse. Adult intervention is required to correct the power imbalance. Students have to report the bullying to a responsible adult in order for an effective intervention to stop the bullying.

We know that victimized individuals who told an adult about being bullied reported being less victimized the following year compared to students who did not report being bullied. When no one reports the bullying, students who bully feel they can carry on without consequences. Secrecy empowers children who bully. If you know something, you need to say something. What are you doing to stop and prevent bullying from happening at Oakville Trafalgar High School?

Students who placed in the top ten will receive an award and students who qualified for the Provincial Competition in February will receive more information. Bullying Prevention Week:

Did you know...Peers play a major role in bullying – by either escalating or stopping it

In about 85-88% of bullying incidents observed during the school day, peers were present and were watching the bullying happen. Peers spent 54% of the time watching the individual who was bullying, 21% of the time joining in and only 25% of the time watching the victimized individual. Adolescents are drawn to bullying episodes, even though the majority of individuals say they don't like to see another person being hurt. Individuals who are bystanders learn about the negative use of power and aggression in relationships. Over time, bullying behavior becomes "normalized".

With a captive audience, a person who is bullying receives the attention of peers and this brings social status. Peer attention and status reinforces the bullying behavior (making it more likely it will be repeated). Yet, when peers had the confidence and courage to intervene, the bullying ended within 10 seconds in the majority of playground episodes. Thank you to every student and class who generously participated in the Shoebox Project fundraiser this past week. Your support makes a real difference for people in our community!

A huge congratulations goes out to Ms. Koutsouvelis and Ms. Proctor Classes! They tied by bringing in an incredible total of 20 items per class, and have each won a candy reward for this week!

But don't stop giving! We still have two more weeks to collect items for the Shoebox Project, which means there are two more chances to win a candy reward.

Sunday November 16th marks the beginning of Bullying Awareness and Prevention week. We, the school community at Oakville Trafalgar High School, do not condone bullying in any form. Bullying is something that evolves throughout one’s life, starting in childhood and can sometimes continue into adulthood. Bullying is a repeated and targeted aggression and does not need to be physical in order to be hurtful. Physical bullying may be more present during the elementary school years, however more covert forms such as social and cyber-bullying can take precedence during high school. While physical bullying causes harm to an individual’s body or property, verbal, social and cyberbullying cause psychological harm. Such offensive, degrading and rejecting behaviours undermine and destabilize an individual’s sense of themselves, of their place in the school, and of their place in the world. What are you doing to stop and prevent bullying from happening at Oakville Trafalgar High School?

Remembrance Day:

The Bronte Remembrance Day ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2025, with a walk from the Royal Canadian Legion Bronte Branch at 79 Jones Street to the Cenotaph in Oakville.  The parade begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 10:50 a.m..  Oakville Trafalgar High School has organized for a wreath to be presented to represent the school during the Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday.

Sr Boys Volleyball:

Attention all students who got a ticket on School Cash for the Fan Bus going to today's SR Boys Volleyball Championship Game.  After Period 1 you are to head to the front of the school to meet Mr. Nauboris and Mr. Glynn.  Only those who have brought in a signed permission form will be able to get on the bus.   Yes, you can bring your lunch.  

All spectators going to the game are to stay in the Gym Area of the Recreation Centre at all times.  You are not to make your way into Hayden High School.  Show your OT spirit by cheering respectfully.  The fan bus will be leaving to return to OT at approx. 11:45am.

It’s finally here - the DECA Regional Competition is this Sunday, November 9th at Brock University. Be sure to check Google Classroom for your competition time and more details. If you have any questions about the event come to room 237 at lunch and Ms. Plata will answer them.

Our SR Boys Volleyball team have earned their way to the Halton Championship game tomorrow!   There will be a fan bus, with a limit to the first 43 people who get their ticket on School Cash.  To get your spot on the fan bus you need to do two things (1) Buy your Fan Bus Ticket on School Cash, cost is $9.75.  (2) Get your permission form from the PE office and have it signed and returned to the PE office by 9am Friday Morning.  The permission form gets you on the bus Friday morning.  The fan bus leaves OT Friday at 9:40am and returns at approximately 12:30pm. The fan bus is open to all students in all grades.

Remembrance Day:

This week, many of us are wearing poppies as a symbol of remembrance. The poppy became a symbol after the First World War, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields written by Canadian soldier Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, who saw poppies growing among soldiers’ graves during World War I. Each poppy reminds us of courage, loss, and hope for peace, respect and gratitude.

Remembrance Week:

This week is Remembrance Week which is a time for us to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by Canadians in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping. You may see cadets and volunteers in our community offering poppies. Wearing a poppy shows that we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. Please take a moment this week to think about what remembrance means to you. This year ---  Mrs. Sibley’s Grade 9 Homeroom Class is organizing the poppy distribution for the school and also adding tips each day.  Today’s tip: It is appropriate to start wearing a poppy on the last Friday in October through to November 11 on Remembrance Day.

Cross Country:

Please join me in congratulating Ahmed accelerator AK for his cross country race at OFSAA. Ahmed finished his season strong, sprinting across the finish line and placing 153rd among the most elite runners in all of Ontario. He also maintained his 2nd place status for all Halton District School Board runners. Go Ahmed go!

Girls basketball:

The Varsity girls basketball played a tough game against Abbey park yesterday to wrap up their home games for the season. All the girls battled hard till the very end to make for a fun and energetic game. Shoutouts go to Alishba and Ashley for their commanding of the court. The girls take on Elsie MacGill on Tuesday to finish out their season. Good luck to them all!

Coding club:

The coding club will be hosting a meeting today at the start of lunch in room 125. We will be going over some common algorithms with practice problems. There will be snack prizes!

Sr Girls Hockey:

Congratulations to our Senior Girls Field Hockey team on an excellent season. 

The season officially wrapped up yesterday with the Halton Finals, where the team suffered their first and only loss of the year by a score of 2-1. It was a heartbreaker, but our girls played with incredible skill and heart right to the final whistle.

Gracie netted the lone goal.

While we are sad to see the season end, we are even more sad to say goodbye to our amazing group of graduating players. Thank you for your leadership, dedication, and passion for the game. You will all be deeply missed!

Jr Boys Volleyball:

Last night the junior boys volleyball team played Abbey Park.  Their strong teamwork, communication and team spirit were demonstrated throughout the game, where they took the first set, but unfortunately lost in the second and third.  Shout out to our players of the game, Michael McLoughlin for his powerhouse hits and ability to read the ball, and to Ben Mundy, for his ability to jump into any position and quick thinking on the court.  The team plays their last regular season game on Monday at home against Georgetown.  Please come out to cheer them on!

Sr Boys Volleyball:

Congratulations to the senior boys volleyball team who won against Abbey Park!  They played with phenomenal communication, exceptional skill and tremendous power throughout all 3 sets.  Shout out to our players of the game, our team captains, Jeremy Squires and Alex Gaston, for their continuous inspirational leadership on and off the court! The team plays their last regular season game on Monday at home against Georgetown.  Please come out to cheer them on! 

Dance Team:

Sr Field Hockey:

Huge congratulations to our senior field hockey team who put up a battle against Garth Webb yesterday! Winning their game 3-0 with goals scored by Imke, Nola and Bianca!

Wish them luck as they play in the Halton Finals tomorrow against Blakelock. 

Cross Country:

If you can catch him, join us in congratulating Ahmed Ak for his top 5 finish of over 100 runners at Cross Country GHAC yesterday! He will be heading to OFSAA in November! We can’t wait to see you sporting that sweater. We also want to thank all our runners for a super season- it had its hills and valleys, but we stayed the course & finished strong through every sprint and stumble! All best to our gr12 senior runners- we’ll miss ya’ll next fall! Remember: don’t throw up, don’t come last, and don’t! Get! Lost! 

Varsity Girls basketball:

Yesterday the Varsity Girls basketball team travelled to White Oaks for league play.  OT worked hard to keep their lead and hold it for the win.  Offensive mentions go to Ishnoor, Ella and Joyce. Bronwyn and Ashley are to be commended for their rebounding efforts.  Good luck Thursday against Abbey Park.

AP Exams:

Exam only students received an AP JOIN code last night.  JOIN your exam only classroom now.

Students in AP courses must JOIN with their AP teacher.

Students requesting an exam where OT offers the course BUT they are not in the course, will be exam only students and will receive their JOIN code today.

All AP exam writers MUST use a code and JOIN in order to have their exams ordered.  This is the last step of the AP reg. Process.

AP exam registration is closed.  No reg. forms will be accepted.

DECA:

Attention all DECA members, please check the Google classroom for the updated rooms for today’s meeting. Please make sure you are attending for important information and to help prepare for your first event!

School House:

Get ready to bring your school spirit to OT. We’re launching our new House System, where students will be part of one of three teams: Red Dragons, Blue Sharks, or Green Gators.

Throughout the year, houses will compete in fun games and activities to earn points. There will be a scoreboard to track results and prizes for the winning house at the end of the year.

To join, simply write your name and grade to sign up. You don’t need to do anything extra —  just bring your spirit. On activity days, you can choose to participate or cheer on your team from the sidelines.

Let’s make this year exciting and see which house will come out on top.

Intramurals:

Lunch time intramurals begin today in gym AB.  Monday is Volleyball, Tuesday is basketball and Rugby is Thursday.  Make sure you have athletic shoes and you have your “sticker” on your student card or get it from the PE office at lunch today.

In 2024, 115 women and children in the Halton area relied on emergency shelters, and 152 women and 139 children accessed residential services. Join The Shoebox Project Club today to help support women experiencing homelessness across Canada. Our first meeting is today at the start of lunch in Room 172 — everyone is welcome!
