Community Planning and Partnerships

The Halton District School Board is looking to partner with community organizations to share existing and proposed Board facilities through the Community Planning and Partnerships (CPP) process. This is part of our commitment to work with community partners to build a strong, vibrant and sustainable public education system benefitting the Board, its students and the wider community.

What are Community Planning and Partnerships?

In alignment with  Ministry Community Planning and Partnerships Guidelines, the Halton District School Board developed a Community Planning and Partnerships (CPP) Policy to identify possible facility partnership opportunities, and to present potential partnerships with parties listed in the Board's CPP Notification List.

If you would like to be added to the Notification List, contact the Planning department.

Partnership Process and Annual CPP Meeting

During the spring of each year, the Board releases a Long Term Accommodation Plan (LTAP). This plan forecasts where new schools or additions may be needed, schools that will remain well-utilized, open and operating schools with unused space and schools that may be candidates for a Program and Accommodation Review.

The Community Planning and Partnerships (CPP) meeting took place on May 28, 2025 Planning staff presented suitable facility partnership opportunities to community organizations and the public. Notifications regarding the meeting were sent to community organizations listed in the Notification List and the general public.

Expression of Interest

We request community partners to read the Community Planning and Partnerships Policy for more information regarding the partnership process, partner selection criteria, partnership agreements and cost recovery.

Expressions of interest in co-build opportunities can be sent directly to the Director of Education.

To express interest in sharing unused space in open and operating schools, you must complete and submit an Expression of Interest form. Instructions on submission are indicated on the form.

Cost Recovery Approach

The Board will not assume additional costs to support facility partnerships. Facilities will be managed on a cost recovery basis, and fees charged to partners will be designed to cover operations and capital costs. Partners will be responsible for renovations to make the space suitable for their use.

For co-building, partners will be required to pay and finance their share of construction costs, including a proportional share for joint-use or common space. For joint ownership structures, partners will be required to pay for the proportionate share of the value of land.
