HDSB Advisory Committees

PIC supports, encourages and enhances parental engagement at the board level to improve student achievement and well-being. PIC focuses on a well-attended parent conference covering a wide range of subjects, as well as parent information evenings.

PIC members communicate with and support School Councils, undertaking activities to help parents/guardians support their children's learning and provide information and advice on parent engagement to the HDSB.

About membership

• PIC consists of 12 parents/guardians, serving one or two-year terms and representing all regions of the HDSB.
• PIC members commit to participating in four public meetings per year, some planning meetings and possibly committee work.
• PIC representatives are appointed by the Superintendent of Education responsible for Parent Community Engagement, PIC co-chairs, a parent/guardian member and a Trustee.
• While we currently have previously elected parents/guardians that will continue to be members, no school should have more than one representative in any category.
• PIC members are chosen based on their interest in working with parents/guardians and staff to support school councils and parent engagement as well as prior volunteer experience and geographical need.

The HREAC is a multi-stakeholder entity, with broad membership from school and board-based leadership, parent/guardian representation and community agencies. The Committee functions to propose and respond to human rights and equity initiatives that support student achievement.

The HREAC is composed of board-based leadership, parent/guardian and community organization representatives living in or providing services to Halton children, youth and families, as well as HDSB staff representatives. Eight parent/guardian and/or community members serve as Members at Large.

Leadership

The HREAC is co-chaired by the Superintendent of Human Rights, Equity and Inclusive Education (or designate) and a selected non-HDSB committee member.

Meetings

The advisory committee meets up to five times per year. For the 2026-2027 school year, meetings will occur on the third Tuesday of each of the following months: October, November, January, March and May, but may be subject to change.

Meetings are held in the evening and are two hours in length. Currently all meetings have been held virtually, but may be subject to change as determined by the collective.

The March meeting will be the fourth Tuesday (i.e., March 23, 2027) due to March Break.

SEAC is seeking local organizations and individuals to become members.

SEAC is an advisory group to the Board which brings forward information and recommendations regarding programs and services for exceptional students. The committee makes recommendations to the Board concerning the establishment, development and delivery of special education programs and services.

Up to three trustees and representatives from up to 12 local associations serve on SEAC, as well as up to three community representatives.

Local organizations required for SEAC

To serve on SEAC, associations or organizations must operate locally within the jurisdiction of the school board, and be affiliated with a provincial association/organization dedicated to the well-being or interests of exceptional children. The organization must meet all other requirements as outlined in Regulation 464/97 for membership to SEAC.

Local organizations interested in participating on SEAC are asked to submit a letter explaining their interest, including their nomination for SEAC representative and alternate for the association by Oct. 30, 2026.

The Mental Health Strategy Advisory Committee brings together students, parents/guardians, caregivers, staff and community partners to provide input and perspectives on student mental health, addictions and well-being.

The Committee serves in an advisory capacity, providing feedback to help inform the HDSB's three-year Mental Health and Addictions Strategy and Yearly Action Plan, as well as related priorities, initiatives and resources.

Members are asked to attend two meetings a year, one virtual and one in-person.
