New Oakville Secondary School

The Future of Excellence

Help Name Oakville’s New Secondary School

The excitement has been building and now it’s time to make your mark on Oakville’s newest high school. As the Halton District School Board prepares to open our new school at 4020 Sixth Line in September 2027, we’re looking for your help to help shape the school’s identity.

From Aug. 17 - Sept. 13, 2026, students, families and community members are invited to bring their creativity and submit name suggestions for the new school. Check back during this time to submit your suggestion for the name through the online form.

Every idea will be reviewed by a committee representing students, parents/guardians and staff to build a top shortlist. The Board of Trustees will then select a winning proposal to submit to the Ministry of Education for final approval. Once approved, the official name will be unveiled community-wide.

To help spark your creativity and ensure your submission hits all the right marks, keep these guidelines in mind before you submit:

Proposed school names must:

  • Reflect a positive image for the HDSB, students, staff and community
  • Be distinct from other HDSB schools

  • Reflect the HDSB’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and policies
  • Be secular in nature
  • Be either in English or an Indigenous language, or be a person’s name

Proposed school names may:

  • Reflect the history, geography and local environment
  • Honour Indigenous communities, language and culture
  • Honour a renowned person of (historical) significance to Halton

Consideration will not be given to proposed school names which include:

  • References to catastrophic events
