Tips & Tricks Session for Grade 9 Students - January 8 & 9
Hey Grade 9s!
As your first high school exams approach, the Student Senate is hosting a Tips & Tricks session for your Final Performance Tasks (FPTs) and Final Exams.
This session will have information pertaining to each subject with an exam and FPT. The subjects we will be covering are:
- ENL1W: English
- MTH1W: Mathematics
- SNC1W: Science
- CGC1W: Exploring Canadian Geography
- FSF1D: Core French (academic)
- FSF1O: Core French (open)
- FIF1D: French Immersion
- BEM1O: Building the Entrepreneurial Mindset
While this session is focused to Grade 9s exclusively, all new students to GWSS can attend as the tips and tricks are cross-transferable to all grades.
Students can sign up via this registration form. This session will take place on either Thursday, January 8th, 2026 or Friday, January 9th, 2026 at lunch in room 2020. Due to extremely high interest, students will select a day at lunch to attend and once a session is full, the option will be removed.
This initiative will be hosted by the Student Senators: Daniel Maier, Banipreet Sachdeva, and Christopher Szura, who work closely with departments and administration to give students the most support they can receive.
If you have any questions, please contact the Student Senators via email. (1maierdan@hdsb.ca, 1sachdevaban@hdsb.ca, 1szurachr@hdsb.ca)
Help HDSB Students With Warm Coats and Boots This Winter
No child should worry about their next meal, especially during the holidays. Liam’s family is struggling, and many other students in Halton are facing the same hardship. Your support today can help a student feel full, safe, and cared for this season. Donate Today to Halton Learning Foundation nostudentleftbehind.ca
As colder weather approaches, the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) and its famous cheerful helper, Carrie the Backpack, are sounding the alarm: more students than ever are arriving at school without the essentials they need to stay warm, healthy, and ready to learn.
Students like Esme, whose daily walk to school became unbearable as temperatures dropped.
"Esme's winter coat was too small and thin in places. She had to wear shoes in the slush, and her feet were wet and cold on her walk to school. Her socks were damp all day, and all she could think of was her walk home after school.”
You can give Esme and other students hope—and warmth—when you donate at nostudentleftbehind.ca.
HLF is looking to ensure 25 students a day have appropriate clothing and food to get through the start of winter and holiday break in December.
To make sure HLF can continue to say “YES” to every request for emergency support they receive, they are accepting donations at nostudentleftbehind.ca. Thank you for supporting students in our community.

Ecuador Trip March 2026
Final Registration Opportunity Information
This past spring we launched Garth Webb Secondary School’s next service learning trip to Ecuador during March Break 2026! We’ve got over 25 students joining us already, but we’re offering one final opportunity for students to join us on this amazing adventure!
We launched the trip in the spring for grade 11 and 12 students to ensure our senior students had the opportunity to register. Now, because we have a few spots left, we’re opening the trip up to grade 10 students as well. Grade 11 and 12 students who are interested but didn’t join in the spring are also welcome to register now.
