Celebrating our Class of 2026 Valedictorian!
As we look back on a wonderful graduation week, we want to officially celebrate and recognize the Garth Webb Secondary School Valedictorian for the Class of 2026: Ayca Y!
Our selection followed a rigorous 3-part process to find the voice that best represented the graduating class:
-
Part 1: Self-Nomination & Video Pitch: Students stepped forward by submitting a comprehensive application and video pitch outlining their vision.
-
Part 2: Selection of Nominees: Our staff leadership team reviewed applications, evaluating academic standing, attendance, and citizenship to select our top finalists.
-
Part 3: Student Voting: Finalists delivered speeches to their peers, and the graduating class cast their democratic votes.
Through this highly competitive process, Ayca stood out as a model of excellence. Academically, Ayca is exceptionally strong, balancing demanding senior-level courses alongside an outstanding attendance record.
When asked how she felt upon hearing the news of her selection, Ayca shared:
"When I found out I had been selected as Valedictorian, I was incredibly honoured and grateful to be the voice of the Class of 2026. It was a surreal moment, and I felt very thankful for the support of my teachers, family, friends, and classmates who have all played a role in my journey as we successfully close another chapter of our lives. More than a personal achievement, I see this as an opportunity to represent and celebrate the accomplishments and resilience of our entire graduating class. "
Beyond the statistics, it is Ayca's character that makes her the perfect representative. We want to extend a huge thank you to Ayca for her incredible Valedictorian address this past Wednesday. In her message to her peers, she spoke eloquently about the journey of this graduating class, beautifully reminding everyone that high school is about unyielding perseverance, conquering challenges together and staying resilient in the face of setbacks.
Please join the entire GWSS community in congratulating Ayca on this well-deserved honor and thanking her for representing the Class of 2026 so beautifully!
