Principal’s Message

Welcome to Garth Webb Secondary School!

At GWSS, we are proud to be a vibrant, inclusive school community where students are empowered to learn, grow, and lead. Whether you are a returning family or visiting us for the first time, we’re so glad you’re here.

Our school is named in honour of D-Day Veteran Garth Webb, whose vision and perseverance led to the creation of the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France: a lasting tribute to Canadian service during the Second World War. Mr. Webb’s legacy reminds us of the power of vision, action, and remembrance, and his story continues to inspire our school’s values and purpose.

At GWSS, our mission is to be a safe and supportive place where students, staff, and families collaborate to explore, learn, experience, and remember. We are committed to nurturing a school environment that is inclusive, accessible, and respectful of diversity. Our work is guided by a shared vision: to build an engaged and connected community where students are supported in achieving their potential and inspired to lead with creativity, critical thinking, and citizenship.

Our school motto, “Learn Today. Lead Tomorrow”, speaks to our belief that what students experience each day, whether in the classroom, on stage, on the field, or in the community, shapes the leaders they will become. With the support of our dedicated staff and the strong partnerships we build with families, students develop the skills, values, and mindset they need to thrive in a complex and changing world.

At GWSS, we value:

  • Engagement through rich and varied learning opportunities;

  • A welcoming, inclusive, and diverse environment for all;

  • Honouring each individual’s identity and pathway;

  • Approaching challenges with creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking; and

  • Fostering resilience, flexibility, and open-mindedness as active members of our school and global communities.

Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to explore and learn more about the incredible work happening every day at Garth Webb Secondary School. We are excited to support your journey and look forward to a year of meaningful learning, connection, and leadership.

Warmly,
Luisa Botelho
