To register, complete steps 1 through 5
Step 1 - Determine if you reside within the Garth Webb Catchment Area
Please use this locator tool to determine if Garth Webb S.S. (GWSS) is the correct school based on your home address. If you are within the GWSS school boundary, please review the following information to determine whether or not your registration can be completed by the school or if it has to be completed at the HDSB Welcome Centre.
Step 2 - Determine if you register with the school or the Welcome Centre
You must contact the Welcome Centre to register for school if your student is:
• Entering the Ontario school system for the first time, and whose first language is not English (or is a variety of English)*
• Entering with an International Student Visa (or any Visa including Visitor Visa)
• Entering with a Work Permit or a Study Permit (student and/or parent/guardian holds the permit)
• Entering as a Refugee Claimant, a Convention Refugee, or a Protected Person
• Entering with a Permanent Residence application in process
• Entering from a French language school in a French language school board (if first language is not English)
• Re-entering Ontario after an absence of a year or more (if first language is not English)
* where student is a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Refugee Claimant
If your student meets any of the above criteria, please contact the Welcome Centre using this form to make an appointment to complete your registration.
If your student does not meet any of the above criteria, please proceed to the next step to continue the registration process with the school.
Step 3a - Registration Process with the School
Note: Registration will occur directly from school to school for all Grade 8 students attending a Garth Webb feeder school (Emily Carr, Captain R. Wilson, Palermo, Heritage Glen, West Oak, and Ecole Forest Trail).
Students who wish to register at Garth Webb Secondary School need to complete the online Student Registration process before moving to the next step on this page (choose the "Request Account" option).
Step 3b - Providing Additional Documentation
After completing the online portion of the registration process, families need to gather the information/documentation outlined on checklist.
Step 4 - Course Selection
You will need to submit your student's course selection with the registration package. To help with course selection please review the various courses offered at Garth Webb:

Step 5 - Finalizing Registration
Once your online registration is received and initially reviewed, you will be contacted to set up an appointment to visit the school with the additional required documents. If you have questions while gathering the documents for the registration appointment, please send an email to gwss@hdsb.ca.
Please note: the purpose of this appointment is to complete the registration process. Tours of the school and meetings with guidance counsellors will not be possible during this appointment.
Important: please be sure that you have all of the required documentation ready to bring to your appointment. If your package is incomplete, we will not be able to complete your registration and you will require a new appointment to complete it. Once completed in full, the registration package will be reviewed by administration and once approved, you will be contacted to confirm enrollment at the school.
