A Record-Breaking Year for Milton Mustang Brody Clark

Milton District High School’s Brody Clark has become one of Canada’s most exciting young distance runners.
The Grade 12 student recently made history at the McQuaid Invitational, one of the largest and most competitive high school cross-country meets in North America. Brody not only won the varsity boys’ race but set a course record, running three miles in 14:29, which is the fastest time recorded on the course since it was redesigned in 2021.
It’s the latest milestone for Brody, who has steadily transformed himself into a national-calibre track and cross-country athlete. In June, Brody swept the senior boys’ 1,500m (3:46.25) and 3,000m (8:14.03) titles at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships.
Brody recently announced his commitment to Wake Forest University, where he’ll join the NCAA Division I program in the fall of 2026. The decision reflects both his athletic ambition and academic drive: two priorities he’s learned to balance through experience.
Brody is one of many HDSB students pursuing athletic excellence while balancing excelling in academics, both key pillars in HDSB’s fulsome student experience model. The ability to have a well-rounded student experience is key to achieving student success at the HDSB, and Brody reflects on navigating the school system that emphasizes empowering each student’s unique pathway to accomplishing their goals.

“Balancing school work with athletics at any level of education or sport is always gonna be tricky,” Brody says. “I’ve learned that procrastination has got to go, and productive delegation needs to take its place. Understanding your priorities and having healthy goals for both academics and sport create a template to live life by. Through trial and error it becomes apparent that you're not always going to be able to crush everything out of the park. Whether it's on the track for a workout or in the classroom on a small assignment, a busy lifestyle has taught me the value in realistic expectations. These expectations over time create a sound mind and productive schedule accomplishing absolutely as much as possible, both inside the classroom and when I have my Milton Mustangs singlet on.”
When asked what advice he would give to other students with goals of athletic success, Brody emphasizes the importance of consistency.
“Some advice that I’d give to other students with similar aspirations of furthering their athletic career in the NCAA and competing for top spots nationally is based on the process. Just like building a skyscraper, it’s all about building one floor at a time. Small consistent gains on a consistent basis will cause heights someone might not know were possible. The journey isn’t always a linear or pretty trajectory. From what I've seen, having the strength to stick to something special to you is where individual greatness comes from.”

As he prepares to take his talents to the NCAA stage, Brody remains focused on growth.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as both an athlete and a student, pushing my limits on the tracks while pursuing my academic goals. Competing at the collegiate level and representing my new team at a bigger championship is a huge motivator for me. But equally so, I’m eager to continue to learn, building habits that will prepare me for a career. Hopefully my degree won’t be useful for my first couple years out of college due to a career in professional running. Although, I’d be excited after the fact to pursue finance.”
From dual OFSAA gold to a record-breaking season, Brody Clark’s achievements reflect the spirit of Learning, Engagement and Achievement, showing what’s possible when passion and perseverance come together. His journey is an inspiring reminder of how dedication and balance can help students reach their goals in and beyond the classroom. The Halton District School Board congratulates Brody and wishes him continued success as he pursues his athletic and academic dreams.
