The Halton District School Board will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new Oakville high school (Oakville NE #1 HS) on Thursday, June 12 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the school site, located at 4020 Sixth Line in Oakville (see attached map).
The new school is being developed to support current and projected student enrolment growth in the Oakville community. The four-storey facility will accommodate up to 1,338 students and include 88 licensed childcare spaces. Key features of the school include natural lighting, an open concept library, a music room, a stage and gym and a sports field.
The project’s construction budget of approximately $71 million is supported by capital funding provided by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Halton District School Board awarded the architectural contract to Snyder Architects, while TRP Construction is leading the construction phase. The school has been designed to support 21st-century learning and reflects the HDSB’s commitment to providing vibrant, supportive spaces where students and staff are inspired to learn and thrive.
In attendance at the ceremony will be Halton District School Board trustees, senior administrative staff, local government officials, area residents and a number of students who will attend the new school once it opens.
