Spotlight on Schools

Milton District High School’s Brody Clark has become one of Canada’s most exciting young distance runners. The Grade 12 student recently made history at the McQuaid Invitational, one of the largest and most competitive high school cross-country meets in North America. Brody not only won the varsity boys’ race but set a course record, running three miles in 14:29, which is the fastest time recorded on the course since it was redesigned in 2021.

Our Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series, and we’re celebrating in true HDSB style! Monday, Oct. 27 is Blue Jays Day — a time to come together, celebrate community and share in the fun of cheering for Canada’s team. Staff and students are encouraged to wear Blue Jays colours or team gear to show their support. Let’s channel our inner Jays — bring that Vladdy-level energy, some Springer spark and a touch of October magic to kick off the week in style.

Through innovative programming, strong community partnerships and student-centered initiatives, the HDSB continues to advance climate education and drive meaningful environmental action across its schools.

Craig Kielburger SS held its Community Pathways Program (CPP) graduation ceremony to celebrate the incredible achievements of its graduates as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. Students, families and staff gathered to recognize these students by enjoying treats, taking photos and listening to heartfelt speeches highlighting the lasting impact each student has made on the CKSS community.

Burlington Central HS student Colin learned about many different aspects of television production during his co-op at YourTV Halton, giving him valuable insight into his future career path. Co-op is a fantastic opportunity for HDSB students to earn secondary school credits while completing a work experience placement in the community. It's available in all HDSB secondary schools and is valuable for all post-secondary destinations including: apprenticeship, college, community, university or work. M.M. Robinson High School hosted an Evening of Black Excellence, a powerful celebration of culture, empowerment, leadership and learning.

The event brought together students, families, educators and community partners for an evening that highlighted the achievements, creativity and contributions of the Black community in Halton and beyond.

​Three HDSB Grade 12 students have been selected to receive the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association's (CTMA) High School Award. Among only 10 in the province to receive the award, Maddox McCormick from M.M. Robinson HS, Aidan Seepersaud from Burlington Central HS and Aidan Carby from Garth Webb SS all received recognition for their proficiency in metalworking skills and positive attitude. Winners of the High School Award receive a $1,000 prize, a Certificate of Achievement acknowledging their contribution to the future of the precision metalworking industry and a Turner’s Cube trophy made by Rapid Enterprises engraved with their name.

Two HDSB students have been selected to become 2025 Schulich Leaders. Diya Kalia, Grade 12 student from Garth Webb Secondary School, and Heidi Huang, Grade 12 student from Iroquois Ridge High School, have both received the honour for their outstanding achievements and character.

 The Halton Youth Leadership Symposium is an annual student-run conference organized by Student Senators for fellow HDSB students.

Aldershot School’s Charlotte Bolduc has been selected as a 2025 Loran Scholar, joining an exclusive group of 36 students chosen from more than 5,000 applicants across Canada. The Loran Award is one of the country’s most prestigious undergraduate scholarships, recognizing youth who demonstrate exceptional character, service and leadership.
