Halton District School Board hosts Calling All Three-Year Olds Kindergarten Open Houses in October and November

Sept. 29, 2026 - Starting Kindergarten is a big milestone, and the Halton District School Board (HDSB) wants to ensure families feel prepared and excited as they set their children on the path to lifelong learning and success. Families with children who will be starting Kindergarten in September 2027 are invited to attend the HDSB’s Calling All Three-Year-Olds Kindergarten Open Houses this October and November in Burlington, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Acton.

Registration for the Open Houses is not required. Future students and their families are invited to attend any of the following Kindergarten Open House events, to be held between 6:30–7:30 p.m.

The Open Houses provide families with an opportunity to explore and familiarize themselves with the HDSB school environment and help their children feel comfortable, confident and ready to begin their educational journey. At the Open House, attendees will:

• Explore Kindergarten classrooms
• Meet and connect with HDSB staff
• Learn about how the HDSB’s Kindergarten program establishes a strong foundation for learning and success in the early years
• Pick up information, a free children's book and a tote bag
• Access information from community partners in Halton
• Receive information about before and after school care

Families with children beginning Kindergarten in September 2027 can register for school starting in October 2026. Registration will be conducted in-person or by completing the online pre-registration form on the HDSB website.

To begin Kindergarten in September 2027, children must be four years old by Dec. 31, 2027 for Junior (Year 1) Kindergarten and must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2027 for Senior (Year 2) Kindergarten.
