Halton District School Board announces Michele Moore and Raquel Walker as incoming Superintendents of Education
June 18, 2026 - The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is pleased to announce that Michele Moore and Raquel Walker have been selected as incoming Superintendents of Education. They will begin in their roles for the 2026-2027 school year. Michele and Raquel are the successful candidates of the hiring process that took place this Spring, following the announcement that Superintendents of Education Dean Barnes and Aiman Flahat would be retiring.
Michele Moore will join the HDSB with more than two decades of experience in public education and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for all students. In her role as a Superintendent of Education with the Greater Essex County District School Board, Michele oversees portfolios including elementary staffing and leadership development, supporting strategic resource allocation and the growth of school and system leaders. Prior to this, Michele served for five years as System Principal of Special Education at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. She also served as an Education Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Special Education/Success for All Branch, contributing to provincial policies and initiatives focused on removing barriers and improving student success across Ontario. She is deeply committed to collaborating with families, educators and system leaders, and leading with compassion and integrity, while centring student achievement and well-being.
Raquel Walker will join the HDSB from the Peel District School Board, where she currently serves as Coordinating Principal in the Equity Department, providing system leadership to support Board priorities and advance student outcomes. Prior to this role, Raquel built experience across various school and system leadership positions in Peel, including Vice Principal, Principal and Resource Teacher. She began her career as an elementary teacher with the Toronto District School Board. Raquel is known for her collaborative leadership, working across schools, departments and community organizations to lead professional learning and support school and system improvement efforts. She is committed to creating welcoming and inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive, while strengthening a culture of learning, collaboration and belonging.
