Official groundbreaking ceremony for new HDSB elementary school in Oakville to take place Thursday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.

Sept. 4, 2026 - The Halton District School Board will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new Oakville elementary school (currently referred to as Oakville #5 PS) on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the school site, located at 3490 Preserve Drive in Milton (see attached map).
The new school is expected to open in Fall 2028 and will support current and projected student enrolment growth in the Oakville community. The three-storey elementary school will offer 926 students a learning environment featuring an open-concept library, natural light and 88 licensed childcare spaces.
The project’s budget of approximately $43 million is supported by capital funding provided by the Government of Ontario. The Halton District School Board awarded the architectural contract to Hossack Architecture and Tambro Construction is leading the construction phase. The school has been designed to support student success and reflects the HDSB’s commitment to providing vibrant, supportive spaces where students are inspired to learn and thrive.
In attendance at the ceremony will be Halton District School Board trustees, senior administrative staff, local government officials, area residents and a number of students who will attend the new school once it opens.
