WANT TO LEARN more about supporting your child’s learning or how to become more involved in the ongoing education of your child?
Parents are encouraged to mark their calendars for the Halton District School Board’s 9th annual Parent Involvement Committee Conference (PIC) on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at Craig Kielburger Secondary School, at 1151 Ferguson Drive in Milton.
In PIC conference workshops, parents will learn about effective practices that support parent engagement in their children’s learning. The goal is to provide parents with ideas and strategies they can utilize to help ensure their children develop and promote positive mental health and well-being.
The conference will provide a variety of new workshops and will also include some that have been well received by parents in years past. Workshop speakers will address numeracy, literacy, promoting positive mental health for children and teens, managing behaviour and discipline, violence prevention, and cyberbullying. Community groups and displays will also be on display.
The two PIC keynote speakers include a world-renowned humanitarian and a medical child and youth expert from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Craig Kielburger, co-founder of Free The Children and ME to WE, will address the topic, The World Needs Your Kid: How to Raise Kids Who Care and Contribute. This speech will provide key insights on guiding children to be compassionate and engaged global citizens.
Dr. Bruce Ferguson is a Senior Consultant and the founding Director of the Community Health Systems Resource Group at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He will speak about, Working Together to Make our Children and Youth Successful.
Admission to the conference is free and registration will begin online at the end of August via the Halton District School Board website, www.hdsb.ca.
