Dr Margo Shuttleworth works with the Department of Education at Brock University which complements her position of School Trustee with the Halton District School Board. She began her experience within education working in the UK in elementary schools in teaching, administrative and consultative roles. She trained as a school inspector and received both her Masters and Doctorates focusing on Inclusive Education.
Margo is passionate about education, inclusion and community values. Communication is key to her role as a trustee. She is quick to respond to emails, phone calls or any queries and has set up super council meetings with all schools in Ward Four. She keeps her ear to the ground to ensure she is in touch with the various communities she represents. She prides herself on involvement and visibility within the community. She feels it is so important to build upon the strong sense of community that is so important to children and families.
As an HDSB trustee, Margo's focus is on:
-
Reducing and eliminating barriers our students face
-
Equity and inclusion
-
Student and staff mental health and well-being
-
Encouraging a ‘think outside the box approach innovative thinking and problem-solving within the classroom and system-wide
-
Creating opportunities for all of our students to be successful in school and beyond
-
Expanding community, municipal, regional and provincial partnerships and initiatives
-
Empowering students to become leaders for change within the HDSB and beyond
