Community members are invited to attend a Halton District School Board event on Thursday, March 9, 2017 to hear author Lindsay Mattick discuss her book, Finding Winnie: the true story of the world's most famous bear. It will be held at Burlington Central High School Auditorium (1433 Baldwin St., Burlington) from 6 p.m-8:30 p.m. Tickets are free.
Winnie was a real bear, rescued and trained by Captain Harry Colebourn (Mattick's great-grandfather) during World War 1. The bear cub went on to inspire author A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh character.
Mattick will also autograph copies of her book, which will also be on sale (cash only).
In addition to the author, the Ontario Genealogical Society, and three veterans from the Friends of HMCS Haida and Burl-Oak Naval Veterans and the Canadian War Museum Memorabilia Box will be present.
