The Halton District School Board looks forward to welcoming approximately 64,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students to the first day of school on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
The Board's 4,212 teachers, 2,188 non-teaching and support staff, and 221 Principals and Vice-principals are outfitting classrooms, tending to sports fields, polishing floors, cleaning buildings and organizing schedules to prepare schools for another productive and memorable school year.
Among the highlights of the 2017-18 school year is the opening of the new Martin Street Public School in Milton. The original school, built in 1920, has been rebuilt on the same site and incorporates many architectural elements of the near century-old building including the front façade. Students and staff have been accommodated at Boyne Public School during the construction process. Martin Street is an up-to-date two-storey, 76,100-square-foot elementary school offering both English and French Immersion programming.
Stuart Miller, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board, is excited to welcome students and families back for what he anticipates will be a rewarding year of learning.
“Our staff members, both teaching and support staff, are busily preparing and working hard to get schools ready for your children – our students – in September. Our school hallways and classrooms are being cleaned and polished, ready for our 64,000 students.," he said. “We are confident the upcoming school year will provide opportunities for students to be engaged in their learning while reaching their potential. We hope our students and parents will be as proud of being part of the Halton District School Board as we are to have them here."
