Event to be held at FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The 18th annual gala awards evening for The Eddies – a popular festival celebrating student filmmaking – will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton (1010 Main Street East, Milton). Theatre doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the awards celebration will begin at 7 p.m., followed by screenings from this year's winners. This event is free and open to the public. Students can obtain tickets through their school.
The Halton Student Film Festival celebrates student success in filmmaking by recognizing technical and creative achievements. The festival is open to all secondary students in the Halton District School Board. The Eddies awards are presented for various categories including Best Drama, Best Comedy and Best Documentary, as well as various technical categories such as Best Cinematography, Editing and Sound.
The student films are judged by professionals in various roles within the film industry. Following the presentation of awards, winning entries will be shown on a large screen for all to enjoy.
“Students, staff, and family members are invited to come out and share in the success of the students,” says Veronica Kleinsmith, Instructional Program Leader for the Halton District School Board. “The Eddies entries continually impress everyone who attends this event each and every year.”
Two businesses support The Eddies Film Festival. Cogeco donates a $2,000 cash prize for a scholarship to be shared among the top three videos, and Evolution DJ offers a DJ dance package to the school of a winning student. They also give their time in assisting with sound and visual displays on the night of the event.
Award winners of The Eddies have gone on to achieve success in the film and television industry, with some capturing prestigious awards for their work. Previous winning entries can be found on the official website (www.theeddies.ca).
